Description:
At north end of parking, a 1-mile loop trail traverses coastal Sitka spruce/grand fir forest, where views of Lake Earl and Brush and Jordan Creek estuaries may reveal flocks of waterfowl or shorebirds in migration, with Bald Eagle and Peregrine Falcon interspersed. In the marshes, see Northern Harrier, Great Egret, Green Heron, Common Yellowthroat, and Marsh Wren. Find American Bittern, Virginia Rail, and in winter Sora. When lagoon level lowers, mudflats support large numbers of shorebirds, mostly sandpipers, both Yellowlegs, and Long- and Short-billed Dowitcher.
