Description:
This family-friendly campground located in the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park has several loop roads with dozens of secluded campsites located on Mill Creek, one of the most productive salmon spawning tributaries of the Smith River. Nestled in towering 100-year-old redwood groves and huge ancient redwood stumps, the bushy ferny campground attracts common forest birds: Pacific-slope flycatcher, Steller’s Jay, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, and Swainson’s and Varied Thrushes. Hermit Warbler, and Spotted and Barred Owls are sometimes heard here. American Dippers are easily spotted working the creek for underwater invertebrates.
