Description: This 1.5 mile trail weaves through a diversity of habitats: grassy meadows, coastal pine and Sitka spruce forests, and stabilized sand dunes. It follows a meandering stream and leads to the ocean shoreline and beach. Listen for the twittering of the Marsh Wren in the reeds near the beginning of the trail and songbirds moving through the pines during migration times. Peregrine Falcon parents with young fledglings have been sighted flying and calling. Listen and watch for them above the trail in late August and early September, practicing their flying techniques. The mouth of the creek where it snakes through the sand into the ocean is a great gathering place for flocks of shorebirds, gulls, Brown Pelican, and cormorants. This remote public beach stretches 11 miles north from Point St. George to the mouth of the Smith River.
